Region Description
The region of Abruzzo covers 10,794 km² almost two-thirds of which is mountainous. The remainder of the land consists of hills sloping to a narrow plain that runs for most of the Adriatic coastline. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is the name of town in the region which grows the Montepulciano grape. Attempts to define actual DOC's in the region have been lacking, which means Montepulciano d'Abruzzo can be found in all four regions of Abruzzo. The only real limitation to the wine is the altitude at which it can be planted.
