Wairau River Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc

750 ML

Product Description

Marlboroughs Wairau River is Maori for many waters, reflecting the intricate braided pattern the river has carved on its path to the Pacific Ocean. It is on these riverbanks that Phil and Chris Rose planted their first vines in 1978, thus starting a tradition of crafting world class wines which continues today. The river pattern also symbolizes the family roots with its interwoven strands moving together in the same direction. The vineyards have again given us fruit which displays classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc characters of gooseberry and passionfruit. The resultant wine then echoes these characters. With a generous mid and back palate this wine shows refinement and elegance finishing with great length. Savour with high jinks and convivial company.

Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc

Region: Marlborough

Region Description:

When the first growers planted grapes in Marlborough in the 1970s (there is evidence of plantings as early as 1870s), it is unlikely they would have foreseen the extent of the growth and fame that the region’s wine industry would achieve, based upon a single varietal called Sauvignon Blanc. The distinctive pungency and zest fruit flavours of the first Marlborough wines, in particular Sauvignon Blanc, captured the imagination of the country's winemakers as well as international wine commentators and consumers and sparked an unparalleled boom in vineyard development. Worldwide interest in Marlborough wines, particularly Sauvignon Blanc, has continued to fuel that regional wine boom.
