What is Tannat? Tannat (which is a palindrome because it is spelled the same forward and backward) is a red wine grape historically grown in the Madiran AOC. Due to growing popularity it is now one of the most prominent grapes in Uruguay. The grapes for this Tannat come from both Yolo and Solano counties, where the weather is optimal for creating softer tannins in the finished wine.
Tannat has the highest level of "oligomeric proanthocyanidins" (condensed tannins) in the world, which makes Tannat the healthiest wine in the world! New studies have found that consuming 1-3 glasses per day (no more, no less) of Tannat will actually increase your life expectancy, and reduce your risk of both cancer and heart disease. California produces the majority of wine made in the United States. Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel and Pinot Noir dominate the wine production in California, but many other varietials thrive in the California climate. Many fine wines are produced in California using Mediterranean grapes.
