Winemaker Blend Notes:
Our 2012 Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon was a pleasure to make this vintage. The color is deep purple with ruby edges. The aromas show notes of black cherry, blackstrap molasses, sandlewood, a hint of mint, and smoky French oak. In the mouth, you see flavors of blackberry pie, fresh currants, pomegranate reduction, dried cherries, fresh dill, toasted pumpernickel bread, and finishes with a hint of brown sugar and Tahitian Vanilla bean.
This is a dark and rich Lodi Cab that has finesse and a roundness on the finish. I would pair this wine with smoked pheasant stuffed with wild rice. Ground buffalo burgers with a teriyaki glaze alongside sweet potato fries would work as well. Or a meat lovers pizza while watching Monday Night Football would make a great start to the week.
Winemaker Sourcing and Harvest Notes:
The 2012 vintage gave us some really good heat in Lodi. This heat paired with some vines that were anxious to produce a good crop gave us some concentrated Cabernet berries. We picked these grapes in late September from three vineyards in Lodi. Two of the vineyards give us rich berry fruit and the third vineyard provides depth and structure. I was able to extract the fruit with some finesse and balance the tannin profile in this wine. A touch of Clarksburg Cabernet Sauvignon gave the blend a roundness to complete the blend. The result is a great glass of Lodi Cabernet which shows you the terrior and value of this growing district. Distinct dark fruit with ripe tannins that are approachable from start to finish.
