The grapes for this Pinot Noir were grown in Sonoma Countys Russian River Valley viticultural appellation. The Russian River empties into the Pacific Ocean and serves as a channel for the cool ocean fog to move inland from the coast. Kenwood produces its Russian River blend from vineyards located off River Road where the rocky soil and the oceans cooling influence create the ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir grapes. This full-bodied yet smooth Pinot Noir exhibits fruity aromas of strawberries and raspberries followed by subtle aromas of rose petals and fresh herbs. The viscous texture and supple tannins give way to a long, smooth finish.
Region Description
(pee noh nwahr)—A tricky grape to grow, Pinot Noir makes some of the best wines in the world. The prototype wine is red Burgundy from France but Oregon, California, New Zealand, and parts of Australia also produce good Pinot Noir. The wine is lighter in color than Cabernet or Merlot with relatively high alcohol, medium-to-high acidity, and medium-to-low tannin. Its flavors and aromas can be very fruity or earthy and woodsy, depending on how it is grown. It is rarely blended with other grapes.
