The 2011 Hogwash Rosé is a blend of fruit from two Grenache vineyards in Mendocino and Paso Robles. The fruit was hand picked at night and then painstakingly cold fermented in stainless steel barrels. Most of this lot was made using a classic saignée method, but our drive to produce a classic Provence-style Rosé led us to harvest one-third of the fruit early and ferment on the ripening skins, yielding a more complete and traditional wine that's lower in alcohol and bursting with a lively natural acidity.
Salmon in color with a nose of lemon curd, orange peel, red apple and early summer rose buds, the 2011 Hogwash is voluptuous and filling on the pallet with hints of lime, papaya and fresh cut flowers, carrying though the finish. There's an austerity that pairs perfectly with the lighter tropical and citrus fruit flavors and aromas which envelope this wine, yielding a beautiful Rosé; a perfect compliment to anything from oysters to ribs.
