Product Description

Introducing the debut of our first Merlot from Sonoma County! This is an exciting release for us in more ways than one - due to the success of our 2009 Merlot and the incredible source for our 2010 fruit, we were able to increase our production in order to meet our growing demand. Our 100% Merlot is comprised primarily from Dennis Hills coveted vineyard in the Russian River Valley the Adam and Eve Vineyard. Named Adam and Eve for its proximity to a pair of so-named Redwood trees considered a landmark by the old-timers in Healdsburg. The vineyard is located in the vicinity of the confluence of Dry Creek and the Russian River. After decades of sourcing Merlot grapes all over the state in his former position, Dennis has found that the moderately cooler coastal regions are the best places for Merlot, being more heat sensitive than most red wine cultivars. These cooler areas, like the Russian River Valley, produce wines of greater color, intensity, and complexity. WINEMAKER NOTES FROM DENNIS HILL The 2010 Cannonball Sonoma County Merlot is a gorgeous ruby red color. Aromas of sweet earth and blackberries mix with chocolate-mocha nuances - the nose also presents a distinctive youthful "fresh walnut" Merlot varietal character. On the palette, the wine is full-bodied and silky displaying ripe cherry, chocolate, and spicy red fruit. The texture has just enough backbone to pair with red meats, duck w/ plum sauce, or pasta with rich sauces. Our 2010 Merlot is consistent with everything you have come to know about Cannonball style lively, approachable, and versatile. TECHNICALLY... Region Description:

Napa County is located north of the San Francisco Bay Area in California. At the north end of Napa County is the Bay Area's second tallest peak Mount Saint Helena, and to the far south of Napa County lays the section of the Napa Valley that bleeds into Carneros. When the first white settlers arrived in the early 1830s, there were six tribes in the valley speaking different dialects and they were often at war with each other. The Mayacomos tribe lived in the area where Calistoga was founded. Napa County was one of the original counties of California, created in 1850 at the time of statehood. Napa Valley is widely considered one of the top wine regions in California and all of the United States. By the end of the nineteenth century there were more than one hundred and forty wineries in the area. Today Napa Valley features more than two hundred wineries and grows many different grape varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Zinfandel. The region is visited by as many as five million people each year, making it the second to Disneyland as the most popular tourist destination in California.
