Product Description

Castiglion del Boscos most representative wine is an example of the Sangiovese grape's perfect symbiosis with the territory of Montalcino. The richness of the stone in the soil gives the wine its unique aroma, complexity and structure. This wine comes from a careful selection of grapes from vineyards located in the Capanna area of the estate. The Capanna vineyards lie at an altitude of 350 m above sea level facing south and the soil is characterized by the predominant presence of galestro stones with layers of clay and sandstone. This terroir is ideally suited to the production of Sangiovese and the influence of the sea is strongly felt , with hot, dry summers and constant winds that remove moisture.

The color is ruby red with garnet overtones, the nose is broad and determined with aromas of black cherry, spice and notes of espresso. This is a bold wine with strong tannins and will age very well. It is sophisticated and harmonious and is an excellent pair for stews, roast meat and cheese.

Region Description:

Montalcino is located about 70 miles southwest of Florence and takes its name from a variety of oak tree that once covered the terrain. During medieval times the city was famous for its tanneries and the resulting shoes and high quality leather. Montalcino has one of the warmest climates in Tuscany with very unique growing conditions on the northern slopes and the southern slopes. The southern slopes get more sun accounting for more powerful wine. The northern slopes are a cooler climate with less sun causing for wine dryer aromatic wines.
