Region Description
This noble variety from Italy is used primarily in Barolo and Barbaresco, two Piedmontese wines. It is a powerful, lusty grape, high in both tannin and acidity but balanced by an ample alcoholic content. Its color can be deep when the wine is young, but orangey tinges can develop within a few years. Its complex aroma is fruity, earthy, woodsy, herbal and floral.
- Grape: 100% Nebbiolo
- Region: Barbaresco DOCG, Piedmont, Italy
- Winery: Pio Cesare
- Flavor profile: Expect notes of dark cherry, raspberry, sweet spice, tobacco, earth, and mineral.
- Structure: It has fine tannins and lifted acidity, with a long, complex finish, making it a wine built to last.
- Food pairing: Pairs well with dishes like lamb.
- Production: It is made from fruit from the single-vineyard "Il Bricco" estate.
